 2016 Preview 


       Last year West End finished fifth in Class 2A region 7 with a 2-4 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs.

       Since 2010, West End has gone a combined 16-45. Their 26.0% winning percentage ranks 52nd in Class 2A over the past six seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, West End has managed to compile a record of 143-127. Their 53.0% winning percentage ranks 19th in Class 2A and 151st in the AHSAA.

       The Patriots are led by head coach Kyle Davis who is entering his second season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 8-12 over the past two seasons at West End Walnut Grove. The Patriots have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach Davis.

       Coach Davis's overall record as a head football coach in nine seasons stands at 35-56 (38.5%). Over the course of his career, Coach Davis's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of two times .

      

      The West End Patriots will play in Class 2A region 7 during the 2016 season.

       It will be an uphill battle for the Patriots if they hope to grab one of the four playoff slots in Region 7 this season.

       The Patriots open the 2016 season on the road against non-region opponent Glencoe on Friday, August 19 at Yellow Jacket Stadium. Last year the Glencoe Yellow Jackets finished with an overall record of 9-2 and in second place in Class 3A region 6. The Yellow Jackets lost in the first round of the Class 3A playoffs to Colbert County by a score of 20-7.

       West End and Glencoe have met a total of 28 times on the football field. The Patriots have a 11-16-1 record against the Yellow Jackets. They last met in 2022 with West End winning by a score of 25-17.

       West End returns 2A All-State Senior receiver Andre Little. He was named to the second team last season.

The first football game played by a high school team in Alabama was in 1892 when Central Birmingham (Phillips) lost to Alabama 56-0 on November 11.
